Editorial Assistant – Marketing

The role

Reporting to our Head of Publishing, you will support the development of our academic publishing division. This is a multi-faceted role requiring flexibility, enthusiasm and innovation.Content creation: you will copywrite content, select and create featured article promotions, and work with authors and editors to create blog posts around key themes promoting their journals.
Graphic design: this includes editing video content; creating branded social media and email graphics; creating marketing collateral, infographics, and artwork for publications; creating designs for journal performance and development reports; and creating designs for guidance content.
Co-managing social media accounts: you will create engaging threads around our content, develop an active follower base, and identify and interact with key audiences for each publication and initiative.
Communications: you will help to prepare and send out author communications, collect and process author contacts, and liaise with the Client Excellence team to provide promotional materials in follow up emails for external events.
Market research: this might include helping to evaluate analytics and create strategies to increase awareness and readership for key publications, identifying and benchmarking journal prospects, and identifying relevant organisations and audiences for key publications.
Thought leadership initiatives: you will support the marketing and publishing teams in developing and promoting initiatives such as Think.Check.Attend. and a regional Open Access Association.
Generally support the Publishing Division as needed, and the rest of company when appropriate.

An enthusiastic, innovative, and proactive person who is eager to learn and develop. You are comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team, have no trouble staying organised and juggling multiple tasks at a time, but are capable of intense focus and attention to detail.

Minimum job qualifications

Minimum 2.1 degree, preferably in humanities or social sciences (i.e., a writing discipline)
Advanced to native English speaker
Expert English writing skills
Expert communication skills
Solid graphic design expertise
Social media/communications experience

Desired extras

Arabic
Video editing
Experience of academic conferences (as speaker, attendee, and/or organiser)
Experience of publishing sector (preferably academic)
Experience of events promotions
Experience with CMS tools, preferably WordPress
Experience using website analytics tools (e.g, Google Analytics)
