Qatar Foundation
To provide a broad range of culturally informed psychological services to higher education students in Qatar Foundation. To provide consultation and outreach programming to the student community as well as provide guidance to students and make referrals to off campus health and wellness providers as necessary.
Key Result Areas:
Provide individual and group mental health counseling, consultation, and crisis intervention to QF higher education students including evaluation, development and facilitation of support groups.
Make referrals to appropriate levels of care and external clinicians based on clinical observations of individuals` condition to support student mental health.
Counsel individuals to express their personal issues, develop an insight to their lives and provide guidance in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
Examine behavioral issues including, but not limited, to: substance abuse, aging, bullying, anger management, careers, depression, relationships, self-image, stress and suicide.
Participate in after-working hours on call services for student population and provide emergency on-call service and crisis intervention for students who have mental health emergencies.
Act as patients` advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
Administer and interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of related records.
Support student academic success through clarification of educational, career, and life goals in collaboration with universities academic affairs.
Conduct outreach programs to raise community awareness about mental health with a focus on the student housing community.
Facilitate training and psycho-educational workshops for students, staff and families. Identify and appropriately address students need for academic accommodation and disability and special needs related issues.
Build relationships, collaborate and develop proactive mental health and wellness programs in conjunction with clinical health services team, student housing, health advisory board, mental health professionals of universities, and governmental mental health authorities.
Assist in designing and implementing special needs and learning policies, procedures and framework of learning and development.
Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and the progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
Attend and participate in regular Community Development and Student Housing staff meetings and Education City collaborations.
Keep up-to-date knowledge on new developments in counseling by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, or establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
Other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counselling, clinical social work, or equivalent degree in mental health, a Master’s degree is an advantage.
6 -8 years of relevant full-time work experience in mental health field; preferably in a university setting; experience in psychological assessments, academic accommodation, and disability services; experience in consultation and collaborations
Multicultural and cross-cultural awareness, experience, and competency
Experience working with students from the Middle East or varied cultural groups
License eligibility in the State of Qatar
