Coffee Roaster

The operator is expected to perform all roaster operator functions, including scheduling loading hoppers according to established formulas, monitoring roasters and making adjustments, conducting quality tests and tastings, entering daily production roasts trains, and overseeing other operators’ work.

Job Duties:

Oversees roaster operation, scheduling, and directs roaster operators in daily work assignments.
Communicates and informs the manager of daily activities and issues.
Acts as back up in scheduling all roasts in Plant Operations Managers’ absence to ensure smooth production flow and to meet inventory requirements.
Interface and coordinate roast scheduling with production staff
Set up the roaster using established procedures as guidelines and make adjustments as needed.
Load green coffee into hoppers to be transferred into the roaster.
Monitor each roast, making adjustments to the roaster settings to ensure quality.
Prepare various coffee blends according to established formulas.
Transfer roasted coffee to appropriate production stations (bagging and grinding) to ensure efficient workflows.
Notify subsequent production stations of roasted coffee status (variety, amounts, special instructions, etc.).
Participate in establishing roasting quality standards.
Conducts quality tests on all roasts using the Agtron roast analyzer.
Participate in regular coffee tastings to ensure quality standards.
Assist in the training of new team members as required.
Able to perform all data entry functions. Also, able to make any changes or adjustments in the system as needed.
Clean and perform regular maintenance on Roasters and other equipment in the Roasting area per maintenance schedules and as directed by Plant Operations Manager.
Sets up and maintains roaster documents and procedures.
Perform all the related job duties as required.
Have training and be compliant with the company’s SQF, GMP, HACCP, FDA, OSHA policies and procedures, and any local/state/federal requirements.

Requirements:

Individual must have previous experience in the production environment with the flexibility to meet changing production schedules and job assignments without close supervision.
Must be able to read and understand operator manuals.
Ability to learn basic knowledge of all coffee roasting profiles
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent mechanical skills to troubleshoot and support roasters for full operation to minimize downtime.
Ability to perform physical requirements of position such as standing and walking, bending and stooping daily in addition to the ability to lift to 100 pounds throughout the workday
Must demonstrate flexibility to meet quickly changing production schedules and job assignments that may involve extended or overtime hours.
Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment
Individual must have a strong interest in coffee tasting.
