Roles & Responsibilities of Business Continuity Specialist
Develop, maintain, and implement business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and solutions, including risk assessments, risk assessment based business impact analysis, strategy selection, and documentation of business continuity and disaster recovery procedures
Identify Business Continuity related risks (internal / external), the assessment of their likelihood, as well as potential impacts and risk mitigation plans.
Conducts risk assessments for various departments and functions, analyzing potential business impact of unpredictable business interruptions such as natural disasters, security breach, legal claims, and market disruptions. Develop Risk assessment report to identify critical information/systems as per BIA process
Plan, conduct, and facilitate regular mock drills to test the adequacy of existing business continuity plans and strategies.
Plans, and conducts internal audits to evaluate organization’s BCPs/DRPs, assess the organization’s business continuity process on a regular basis – provide preparedness summary to senior management.
Plans and follow ups the closure of non-conformities, gaps in internal and external audit reports.
Collaborates with IT staff to develop and implement best practices to protect and restore data and systems in the event of natural disasters, viruses, and hackers.
Ensures and verifies periodically the implementation backup procedures of critical systems.
Plan and review RTO and RPO target with the IT staff
Identifies and implements recovery operations and methods to allow the company to function at limited or partial capacity in case of part or all of the infrastructure is damaged or destroyed.
Review and maintenance of business continuity policies, standards and processes as and when required.
Develops and provides staff training on business continuity & disaster recovery.
Ensure that plans are properly rated for all business process areas, contain all required sections, and reflect current conditions. Ensure that plans and strategies are appropriate, cohesive and viable, and could be used to recover key functions within required time frames.
Ensure that IT DR applications have a fully documented, tested, executable plans.
Design, coordinate and execute BCP/DR annual test exercises for critical business processes and produce test reports including lessons learned.
Coordinate follow up on implementation of Areas of improvement as required.
Partner with infrastructure and application areas to develop and maintain recovery procedures for Tier 1 business applications.
Develop recovery priorities, time lines, and strategy for proper sequence of recovery components.
Review existing and proposed plans for recoverability effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Assure regular reporting and tracking of business continuity related issues and remediation activities.
Candidate should have previous experience in resilience / business continuity/ crisis management/ incident response/ IT disaster recovery etc.
Preferably, the candidate should have worked with resilience consulting firms earlier
Expert understanding of resilience requirements at enterprise level
Excellent teamwork capability, passion and drive the Resilience opportunities
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Expert understanding of enterprise threats, vulnerabilities, and resilience countermeasures
Experienced in performing business impact analysis for organizations at an covering the operations, IT etc.
Awareness and knowledge of Operations resilience, Business continuity management, IT Disaster Recovery and Crisis Management (DRII, BCI, ISO22301 etc.)
Performs other related duties as assigned.
