Senior Interior Designers will plan and organize the design of several project types. Projects may take place in a range of settings, including:

Hotels
Office spaces
Retail locations, e.g. shops, cafes, forecourts
Leisure spaces, e.g. cinema, holiday complexes
Residential developments; apartment buildings
Domestic properties
Public buildings, e.g. cinemas, museums and civic buildingDeveloping creative ideas and acquiring key information about potential projects, discussing requirements in detail with clients (the brief), and setting project schedules
Understanding individual clients’ needs and the needs of the people using the space, developing design concepts in consultation with the client, and establishing final briefs
Considering materials and costs according to set budgets and reviewing quotes from suppliers
Conducting feasibility studies for projects
Producing ‘sample’ or ‘mood’ boards for presentation to clients
Sourcing products, for example, fittings, furniture, lighting, finishes, decoration items, and providing samples for clients; this will include obtaining costs for all items and coordinating budgets
Preparing detailed working drawings, designs, plans, models, and schemes, often using computer-aided design (CAD) or relevant software
Independent drawing and specification documentation packages review for technical, operational, cost suitability, and design for projects run by other designers
Surveying buildings
Coordinating with Suppliers and having a knowledgeable grasp of technical details and requirements
Supervising work at the design stage and on-site
Working closely with quantity surveyors to establish costs and work schedules on projects where required. Working with architects and other design professionals to determine the best use of space, and with manufacturers and contractors when required in a specific phase

Other Responsibilities

Lead the project team and work in a team with other designers in all phases, from start to completion, of projects undertaken.
Mentoring other designers on technical, operational, cost suitability, and design details.
Identify and manage resources required for the project and constantly review and feedback to Design Director or the manager in charge
Assist and work together as part of a team, creating and maintaining a harmonious work environment. Be readily available always to deal with problems or concerns
Ensure Company rules & procedures are followed in accordance with the Employee Handbook
Ensure full use of the filing system and databases
Be punctual and on time to commence work
Be responsible for ensuring that a professional, neat, and tidy appearance is always portrayed, including leading by example through maintaining high standards of morale and appearance

Qualifications & Experience

A degree in Interior Design or Architecture
A proven record of success at a senior interior designer level
At least ten years senior level experience in the management of people and resources
A wide knowledge of the design industry
An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques
Presentation skills
Able to handle situations with an appreciation of the demands of conflicting interests and of meeting both project and statutory requirements
A very high level of commercial awareness
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Languages & Skills

Excellent English skills (written, reading, spoken)
Required to have advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
The ability to learn and use new systems e.g. SpecSource, DotStudio, and other design and specification-related software
