Senior Legal Counsel
Job Description:
● Ensure that all company activities are conducted within an appropriate legal framework and within an acceptable legal risk tolerance, with the goal of mitigating any legal risks.
● Advise on, review, and evaluate the legal impact of all applicable energy sector laws and regulations, including any changes made to them, while specifying the company’s actions to be taken as a result.
● Review and prepare legal advice to support, endorse, prepare, or finalize any document requiring legal input, including but not limited to agreements, contracts, and memorandums of understanding, licenses, government reports and tender documents to ensure legal soundness and protection to company.
● Oversee the process of adhering to compliance procedures, ensuring confidentiality and effective management, and maintaining files and records of all relevant documents and important information.
● In the event of a legal dispute, provide estimates and reviews of expected financial impacts and potential damages, as well as support and advice to senior management at the company on risk mitigation measures.
● Collaborate closely with the concerned authorities to enact legislation, ensuring that proposed legislation is consistent with the current legislative framework and that it accomplishes the policy objective in a legally effective manner.
● Provide legal advice and assistance to units across the company departments regarding the laws, legislation, and regulations affecting the energy sector.
● Ensure that the prepared legislations comply with UAE laws and regulations by conducting research on existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing compliance, and advising company leaders and senior management on next steps.
● Maintain communication with the government and relevant stakeholders regarding the draft legislations and their enactment, while adhering to all applicable legal procedures.
● Amend and review legislation including existing legislation to ensure it is effective, accessible, and relevant.
● Support new legislation enacted by the government, as well as raising awareness among stakeholders who will be affected by such legislation.
● Provide legal advice to the company on matters pertaining to the energy sector, while keeping in mind legal compliance, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the relevant directorate’s objectives.
● Draft internal legal and legislative memos at the request of the companies’ respective sectors and directorates.
Job Requirements:
● A bachelor’s degree in law (LLB)
● Master’s degree in a closely related field
● Minimum of 9 -11 years of experience in relevant field.
